Gelcoat

What is Gelcoat? Gelcoat is a coating material consisting of glass fiber, polyester resin and pigment. It provides an aesthetic appearance to the hull or deck of the boat, as well as protection against external factors. Gelcoat creates a smooth and shiny surface, making boats more durable and attractive.

Gelcoat Application

  1. Surface Preparation: Before applying gelcoat, the surface to be applied must be thoroughly cleaned and smoothed. Substances such as dust, dirt and oil must be removed from the surface.
  2. Primer Layer A primer layer is applied to ensure good adhesion of the gelcoat to the surface. This layer increases the adhesion of the gelcoat and creates a smoother surface.
  3. Gelcoat Application Gelcoat is applied to the surface by spraying or roller. Care should be taken to create an even and smooth layer during application.
  4. Drying Process: After the gelcoat is applied, it is left to dry. Drying time may vary depending on ambient temperature and humidity.
  5. Sanding and Polishing: After drying, any roughness on the surface is removed by sanding and then polished to a glossy finish.
